Intel tightens belt, freezes hiring at its biggest revenue-generating unit

The PC desktop and laptop chip unit's revenue dropped dropped 12% to $9.3 billion in the most recent quarter, a time when Intel's total revenue dropped 6.5% to $18.4 billion.
