NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - March 14, 2016 - PRLog -- The bipartisan bill Federal Personal Care Products Safety Act (S.1014) introduced by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) continues its slow progress through Congress. This bill increases the oversight of the FDA over ingredients allowed in cosmetic skin care products. It pits consumer advocacy groups like the Breast Cancer Research Fund, Environmental Working Group and smaller skin care companies like Organoderm against the major cosmetic conglomerates like L'Oreal and Procter & Gamble.
"This is a David-versus-Goliath struggle," said Dr. Edward Domanskis, founder and president of Organoderm skin care. "I am aghast how anyone can continue to include toxic ingredients in their products. That is why I am participating in this lobbying effort in Washington, DC, in favor of passage of this bill."
This bill in its present form will affect all skin care product manufacturers by requiring them to register and disclose their ingredients. "I have always been a proponent of safety first. Without a doubt, what we put on our skin goes directly into our bloodstream. That these toxic chemicals, which are allowed presently, have been scientifically proven to interfere with development, disrupt hormones and cause disease and cancer is irrefutable," continued Dr. Domanskis.
The United States skin care market is expected to reach 11 billion by 2018, according to Statista. "Is it worth it to continue to sacrifice health and well-being for increased profits?
