As Aurora Deals points out, the Aurora Housing Strategy is an overarching policy designed to ensure that the city has adequate housing stock for all income levels. It encompasses multiple community initiatives, many of which will begin or continue throughout the next 12 months.
A more specific measure is the “Yes in God’s Backyard” program, which proposes steps to streamline zoning requirements and make it easier for Colorado schools and places of worship to develop parcels of vacant land they own. As Aurora Deals explains, this initiative has not yet been approved by lawmakers, but Aurora is expected to be a participant if and when it is passed.

An example of a current program is the Fitzsimons Gateway project, which has already commenced and has a planned completion date of late next year. Aurora Deals’ new guide states that this project is focused on offering affordable rental homes to local residents.
Finally, Aurora Highlands and Windler Community are two examples of planned projects that will have a combination of residential and commercial spaces. In both cases, the developments focus on family-friendly communities, and homes are expected to be available throughout 2025.
