Buggyra Academy France driver Téo Calvet faces the decisive race of the season this weekend on the demanding Albi circuit.
-- The young Frenchman will battle to defend his title and claim his fourth overall crown as the king of French truck racing.
The odds are clearly in his favor. Heading into the final four points-paying races, the Buggyra Academy France driver holds a 61-point lead over Thomas Robineau, his only remaining challenger for the championship. José Sousa sits third, while his son Raphaël will aim to improve on his current fifth place in the standings.
“It’s the most important race of the year — one where we can win everything or lose everything. We have to be very strategic. That applies to both Téo and José Sousa, who needs to maintain third position. We must keep a clear head and score as many points as possible,” said Buggyra Academy France team boss Fabien Calvet.
“We know the Albi track well and its challenges well. Overtaking here is very difficult. On the first day, we have to do everything possible to secure our positions and build a sufficient gap. We’ll do everything we can to win. In the best-case scenario, we would finish first and third overall — Téo first and José third. Having two trucks on the podium would be a dream,” Calvet added with determination.
True to his racer’s spirit, Téo Calvet can’t wait to hit the track. “I really can’t wait. It’s our home race, just 45 minutes from where we live. We’ve got a solid lead in the championship. There will be a lot of battles on track, but we’ll have to be careful — one race can change everything,” said the 24-year-old driver.
The defending champion is also aware of how crucial Saturday’s races will be. “We’ll need to drive cautiously on the first day and avoid any contact. If we manage to secure the title, then we can fight harder on Sunday,” he added.
The French championship weekend consists of four races in total. On both days, the starting grid for the first race is determined by qualifying and the following Superpole session. The second race, which offers fewer points, features a reversed grid for the top finishers from the opening event.
