Armanino Receives 2023 MOVE Project Award for Best CPA Firm for Women

The top 20 accounting firm receives recognition for profession-leading efforts to identify and elevate women leaders with women making up nearly a third of the partnership, well above the industry average

Armanino LLP (“Armanino”), a top 20 consulting and accounting firm, is proud to earn recognition with the prestigious 2023 MOVE Project Award as a Best CPA Firm for Women. This award, presented by the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance and Accounting MOVE Project, recognizes companies leading the way in creating a unique culture that enriches and creates opportunities for women to advance their careers in the accounting profession.

The MOVE Project Award acknowledges Armanino's exceptional dedication to creating an inclusive workplace environment. Since 2016, Armanino’s The Bridge, led by a consortium of executives and partners, has made a concerted effort to support and encourage more women to consider partnership as a career goal. The Bridge has since developed a plethora of ways to support women at Armanino from intern to executive through mentorship programs, peer support groups, and specialized educational resources; these initiatives help enhance career progression opportunities while balancing life and family commitments and benchmarking the firm’s success against industry standards, including the MOVE Project’s public data.

"We are incredibly proud to receive the MOVE Project Award from AFWA, recognizing our firm's ongoing commitment to women leaders in the workplace," said Matt Armanino, CEO of Armanino LLP. "We firmly believe that women in leadership and women’s career development are crucial to our success. Our initiatives aimed at supporting working parents and caretakers, advancing executive leaders, and offering flexibility demonstrate our dedication to creating an inclusive workplace where all team members can thrive.”

This year, Armanino celebrated its growing percentage of new female partners at the firm who made up 50% of the 2023 class, and overall women comprise 30% of partners. This was in part driven by Armanino’s Executive Access Program, founded by The Bridge, which pairs high-potential female managers with firm executives and partners to provide them with the opportunity to build relationships with key leaders and help drive career advancement. Armanino’s The Bridge continues to look at new ways to support women and improve the firm’s overall diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

"The Accounting MOVE Project award is a testament to our efforts in empowering women leaders in the workforce, which is at the heart of The Bridge," said Sharon Bhalaru, Partner and Chair of The Bridge at Armanino. "At Armanino, we strongly believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce drives innovation and success. Our initiatives aim to support, celebrate, and empower our employees in every way as they achieve their professional goals and build fulfilling personal lives."

Armanino's continuous efforts towards promoting diversity and inclusion have significantly contributed to the firm's overall success. The MOVE Project Award serves as a testament to the organization's commitment to creating an equitable workplace where each employee can thrive.

About the Accounting MOVE Project

The Accounting MOVE Project is based on the MOVE methodology, developed by research partner Wilson-Taylor Associates, Inc., which investigates the factors proven to be essential to women’s career success:

  • M – Money: fair pay practices
  • O – Opportunity: advancement and leadership development
  • V – Vital supports: work-life programs that remove barriers
  • E – Entrepreneurship: operating experience for managing or business ownership

The Accounting MOVE Project is the basis for two recognitions of excellence for women in the accounting and advisory profession, both awarded by the AFWA:

  • Best CPA Firms for Women: To earn a spot on the list, an employer must have both a proportionate number of women at most or all levels of management and proven success with the MOVE factors. An employer cannot win by having a rich array of programs but few women in leadership. We believe that if a firm’s MOVE factors are effective, it will have a healthy and growing proportion of women in its leadership pipeline.

  • Best CPA Firms for Equity Leadership: This list recognizes firms with at least 31% women partners and principals, as roughly a third is the widely recognized “tipping point” or members of any identity group to have individual impact. The Equity Leadership list recognizes firms that have achieved that milestone through any combination of culture, programs, initiatives, and growth.
