This year, the 36th annual IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award™ winners were honored during a live dinner ceremony held on the evening of April 26, 2024, at the Hilton Denver City Center Hotel in Denver Colorado. For the fourth year in a row, the ceremony was graciously sponsored by Ingram Content Group.

Named a Silver winner in the best first book in fiction category during the April 26, 2024, ceremony, The Price We Pay was highlighted for its thought-provoking content, and the importance of speaking up.

In The Price We Pay, Anthony weaves a compelling narrative that tackles complex issues surrounding racial tensions and social justice. Through the eyes of a teenage protagonist, the book examines the power of finding one's voice in the midst of adversity. Its raw and honest depiction of these societal issues resonated with readers, allowing The Price We Pay to be recognized with this prestigious silver award.

Nikki T. Anthony was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where her love for writing sparked as a teenager. Growing up in poverty, Nikki became an avid reader to escape her reality by visiting the neighborhood public library which allowed her to explore different environments through reading fiction. As an avid reader that used literature as leverage in her own life, Nikki’s mission is to do her small part as a change agent by utilizing storytelling as an outlet for the new generation of young adults, through her debut novel The Price We Pay.

An annual book award competition named in honor of one of America's most cherished publishers/printers, the 36th annual IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award™ program recognizes excellence in independent book publishing across 57 categories. This year's awards competition, for books with a copyright date of 2023, garnered over 1,800 individual entries. IBPA received assistance in administering the program from 171 book publishing professionals including librarians, bookstore owners, reviewers, designers, publicity managers, and editors.
