This announcement is made by China Telecom Corporation Limited (the Company, together with its subsidiaries, the Group) pursuant to Rule 13.09 of the Rules Governing the Listing of Securities on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the Listing Rules).
The board of directors of the Company (the Board) wishes to inform the shareholders of the Company (the Shareholders) and potential investors that in accordance with the requirements of the International Financial Reporting Standards, the management of the Company is conducting impairment tests on the carrying amounts of the Groups long-lived assets and it is expected that a proposal for making a significant amount of provision for impairment loss on its PAS asset (a wireless local access network based on the Personal Handyphone System (PHS)) will be submitted to the Board for review and approval on 24 March 2009.
