US stocks trending lower as busiest day of 4Q earnings season is coming up

U.S. stocks were receding early Thursday morning after markets closed higher Wednesday as nearly half the companies in the S&P 500 have reported fourth-quarter earnings, with earnings and revenue so far coming in well ahead of forecasts.
