Track the Greatest Show on Earth in 2021

Discover Africa Safaris announces the Great Migration of 2021 from their HerdTracker.

Every year, approximately two million wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelles, and zebras migrate from Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park to Kenya’s lush, green grasslands of the Masai Mara National Park. A large number of tourists rush to East Africa annually to experience it, but not everyone is in the right location at the right time. That was the situation – until HerdTracker came along.

What is Herdtracker?

HerdTracker is the famous real-time Google map, which shows instant updates of the Wildebeest migration’s precise location. This well-known Map has been around for seven years and has worked with several big brands in media such as CNN, NBC News, Times Live and much more.

This year the Herdtracker team is excited to announce that the Great Migration of 2021 will be the best one yet!  While the humans are self-isolating, the animals are running wild and enjoying their freedom. No poaching, no humans, no planes and no cars have given us the promise that the Wildebeest herds will be bigger and more beautiful in 2021 than anyone could ever imagine.

This year, everyone can be part of the Wildebeest Migration by using the Herdtracker tool.

How does Herdtracker work?

The award-winning Herdtracker tool works by obtaining weekly real-time reports from aircraft flying over the Serengeti and Masai Mara, safari guides on the ground, Tanzania National Parks Authority rangers, and hotels in Kenya’s Masai Mara.

How can we use Herdtracker now?

Due to COVID-19, countless safari bookings have been postponed; this tool can help users track the Great Wildebeest Migration from the comfort of their own homes, no matter where they are.

The migratory map was initially created for safari travellers to watch a month-by-month projection of the herd’s movement. Ensuring they are in the correct spot at the right time, but the tool has become much more than that.

Users from all over the world have started following the Herdtracker tool on all platforms, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or the actual Herdtracker page itself.

“This year we can all monitor the greatest show on Earth together, whether it’s on a dreamy safari to Tanzania or from a computer monitor,” says co-founder of Discover Africa Safaris, Andre Van Kets.
