The runway of Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport will be reconstructed by 2025

Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport is to reconstruct its runway in order to extend it and have a possibility to accept aircrafts such as Airbus A321. Also construction of new taxiways, platforms, light signaling equipment is being planned.

KYIV, UKRAINE, April 26, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to the order of the Kyiv City State Administration, large-scale reconstruction work of the aerodrome of the Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport (Zhulyany) is starting in the capital of Ukraine. The project includes the extension of the runway by 500 m (up to 2810 m), construction of new taxiways, platforms, light signaling equipment, etc.

The project contemplates upgrading the aerodrome and will allow landing of CAT II category ICAO aircrafts with higher passenger capacity, such as Airbus A321. Thus reduce the number of flights in terms of increased passenger traffic. In addition, the Airbus A321 is a modern, efficient and safe low-noise aircraft. Which is very important for a city airport.

The development of design and estimate documentation is currently underway. Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport covers an area of ​​265 hectares, has one runway 2310 m long and 45 m wide.

Prior to COVID-19, Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport cooperated with more than 43 airlines, operating flights to approximately 140 cities in 48 countries. It operated about 2,500 flights a month and served nearly 2 million passengers annually.

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) is one of the two passenger airports of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. It is located in the Zhuliany neighbourhood, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) southwest of the city centre.

Aside from facilitating regular passenger flights, Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport is also the main business aviation airport in Ukraine, and one of the busiest business aviation hubs in Europe.
