The multi award winning film shot in Northern Ireland picks the top prize in South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Feb 26, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - The film Tides set in Northern Ireland won the top prize at Myrtle Beach International Film Awards, South Carolina.

The film, defined by critics as "Docudream" because of its surreal and magical atmosphere combining documentary genre and surrealism, won an incredible raft of awards around the world. The film is written and directed by Italian Alessandro Negrini, who previously directed the multi-award-winning film, Paradiso. Since its release, Tides has achieved huge success in the festival circuit and praise from juries and critics. This is the 15th international award.

Tides is a dreamlike and visionary portrait of a river in Northern Ireland, that in Negrini's words "it has become a liquid border": the majestic River Foyle. The story is narrated from the point of view of the river, becoming the protagonist and narrating its autobiography. Negrini's images and words provide much food for thought, striking an evocative balance among wonder and deep attention to the contradiction of history in our divided society.  The Dop is the renowned Norwegian Oddgeir Saether (Dop in David Lynch's Inland Empire), an editor is Belfast based, Stuart Sloan. The voice of the River Foyle is provided by Emma Taylor who already won an award in Rome for her role in Tides.

Negrini said that he is "touched and so happy to realize how this little story about a faraway river has been traveling around the world and has translated into other cultures, stories and lives." "It's also a film about forgotten dreams, a sort of invisible territory that breathes inside each of us, doesn't matter on which side we ended up. We live in a society that exercises one of the most powerful viruses: historical amnesia, including our capability to remember that there were times in which "the other" wasn't a menace but a promise", the director said.
