From Leading YouTube’s Product Team to Venture Capitalist: How to Find the Next Rocket Ship Startup with HomeBrew Partner Hunter Walk

By: Bullish

HomeBrew partner Hunter Walker joins Social Leverage’s Howard Lindzon for a thoughtful conversation on his time at the early days of Youtube, investing in fintech, “rocket ships” (not literal ones), betting on founders, the creator economy and more. If you want to learn about scaling production and businesses from an early stage, you’re going to want to watch this episode.

HomeBrew is a San Francisco-based seed stage venture capital fund that provides support and early stage investments to mission-driven entrepreneurs, specifically those in SaaS, machine learning, marketplace and commerce businesses. In Hunter’s own words, HomeBrew serves founders who “enable individuals and small businesses to think big.” If you want to see their impressive portfolio or learn more about the company, check out their website: https://homebrew.co/

Hunter credits his success as an active angel investor, advisor and HomeBrew partner to his previous experiences.

“I don’t think I could be helping if I didn’t first have a career in ‘doing,’”  he said.

For Hunter, ‘doing’ includes leading Youtube’s product management team for 9 years, managing product and sales at Google, joining the founding team of Linden Lab, getting his MBA at Stanford, and managing teams of over 40 people.

But Hunter is more than just a driven, creative leader. He is also a thoughtful writer. Hunter manages a blog by the name of “99% Humble, 1% Brag.” In this blog, Hunter gives insight and understanding to the oftentimes confusing world of venture capital. He covers an array of topics on his blog, including pitch decks, economic concepts, COVID-19 economic and cultural impact, fintech and more.
