Ask many people if they think there’s anything cuter in the world than a baby, and odds are they’ll be unable to give you a good answer. Yet aside from being cute, babies are also amazing and can do a lot of things that people don’t realize.

Keep reading to learn about 6 amazing newborn baby facts.

1. Newborns Cry Without Tears

Parents know that babies begin crying when they’re around 2 to 3 weeks old. However, you might notice that there are no tears during this time until the baby is about a month old.

The high point (or low point, for parents) in crying tends to be around 6-8 weeks. By the time a baby is 3 months old, they should be calmer.

2. Some Birthmarks Will Go Away

You might notice that your baby came out of the womb with “angel kisses” or “stork bites”. Regardless of what you call them, these are pink or red spots around the baby’s head.

These spots generally disappear over the course of a few years. Doctors are unsure as to what causes them.

3. Newborns Can Stop Breathing

If you’ve ever watched your baby sleep, you may notice that they stop breathing at some moments. Although panic-inducing, this is normal.

Irregular breathing in babies is common. They can go 5 to 10 seconds without a breath. However, if they go for longer, or start to turn blue, it could be a sign of a medical emergency. On the flip side, they can also breathe more than 60 times per minute when they’re excited or after finishing crying.

4. Baby Tonsils Have Tastebuds

Babies’ mouths are full of tastebuds, around the same number that a young adult has. Yet they cover more areas, going down on their tonsils and into the throat.

Newborns can taste sweet, sour, and bitter flavors. This is to help them differentiate between sweet breast milk and other, harmful flavors. After 5 months, they’ll begin to taste salty flavors.

5. They Have No Internal Clock

One of the hardest parts about being a new parent is that a good night’s sleep turns into a thing of the past. This is because babies lack a circadian rhythm, which is the impulse that tells your body to wake in the day and sleep at night.

It’ll take around 12 weeks for your baby to differentiate between day and night.

6. They Have Huge Eyes

What’s the cutest thing about a baby? Most people agree, it’s their huge eyes! When babies are born, their eyes are around 70% of the size of an adult’s.

It’s important to capture the cuteness and innocence of babies, as they grow up quickly. Consider hiring a newborn photographer to help preserve the memories.

Interesting Newborn Baby Facts Make Them Even Cuter

If you find babies to be cute, you’re not alone. Baby humans and animals are biologically programmed to trigger a caregiving response in adults. Yet as these 6 newborn baby facts explain, babies can also do many extraordinary things.
