Consumer spending is still rising steadily, but coronavirus looms as potential brake

Americans bought more new autos in January and spent more on hotels and eating out, but consumer spending has slowed since last summer and it’s unlikely to improve much so long as the coronavirus threat persists. Consumer spending increased a mild 0.2% last month.
