Dental cavities are tiny holes in your teeth that can occur as a result of bacteria buildup. The bacteria eat away at the enamel, leaving small holes. Those little holes can turn to big holes if you don’t treat the problem quickly. If you have ever wondered how to get rid of cavities, we have the answers you need.

Prevent Cavities by Visiting Your Dentist

Your dentist is your greatest resource for learning how to get rid of cavities. Therefore, you should schedule an oral exam every six months. Your dentist will perform a comprehensive assessment and give you teeth cleaning. Outside of daily brushing and flossing, teeth cleaning is the best way to prevent tooth decay.

If you already have a cavity, your dentist may recommend treatment such as:

  • Fillings
  • Dental crown
  • Tooth extraction
  • Root canal
  • Dentures

The care that your dentist recommends will depend on what type of condition you have.

How to Get Rid of Cavities at Home

If you’ve ever wondered how to get rid of cavities at home, then try these simple strategies:

CUT DOWN ON YOUR SUGAR INTAKE

Reducing sugar consumption is harder than ever. Some form of sugar seems to be in almost everything we eat. However, you can cut out some of your sweets and reduce how much actual sugar you consume. You may also want to switch to sugar-free gum. It contains xylitol, which promotes saliva flow and helps you get rid of more bacteria.

TRY MORE VITAMIN D AND CALCIUM

Another solution to get rid of or prevent cavities is to eat foods with more vitamin D and calcium. These vitamins naturally strengthen your teeth. You can also take vitamins as a supplement. However, you should eat foods rich in Vitamin D such as yogurt and milk. Also, going outside will allow you to get more vitamin D directly from the sun.

MAKE SURE YOU USE PRODUCTS WITH FLUORIDE

You may assume that there is fluoride in your toothpaste or mouthwash; however, not all products carry it. An American Dental Association label ensures that the toothpaste you are using has fluoride. Also, check the label on your mouthwash products. Will they make your breath smell better or actually strengthen your enamel with fluoride?

To be clear, none of these home ‘remedies’ guarantee that you will lose your cavities. However, they do promote durable enamel and positive development of your teeth. The bottom line is this: take care of your teeth. Brush and floss every day. Follow up with a clinical mouthwash. Visit your dentist every six months and have them  professionally clean your teeth. That will prevent tooth decay more than all the home remedies.
