Multiple System Atrophy Coalition Named '2019 Top-Rated Nonprofit' by GreatNonprofits

The award is based on outstanding 5-star online reviews from members of the MSA community. The MSA Coalition has now earned this seal of approval in four consecutive years.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - March 29, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition (MSA Coalition) announced today that it has been named a “2019 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits.

The MSA Coalition is the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization dedicated to support, education, research and advocacy for multiple system atrophy, a rare and devastating neurological disease.

“We are honored to be named a Top-Rated Nonprofit for the fourth consecutive year,” says Cynthia Roemer, chair of the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition. “This year’s award is incredibly special to us, in this, our 30th anniversary year of dedicated service to the multiple system atrophy community. We are so thrilled to announce that in the first three months of 2019, we have earned 30 new 5-star reviews from those we serve. We are proud of our accomplishments over the past year, including our ongoing commitment to stage the only two-day annual support and education conference for MSA patients and their families, sponsoring of the International MSA Congress for the scientific community and hosting the first-ever Global MSA Advocacy meeting with other like-minded charities to foster a community of support and care for this rare neurological disease. We are also very excited to unveil more details soon about our new patient-centric MSA Research Grant Program, which will build upon the nearly $1.7 million in research grants previously awarded by the MSA Coalition.”

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that the MSA Coalition received from volunteers, donors and aid recipients.

“The MSA Coalition is a unique community of dedicated, caring people brought together by the common goal to ultimately defeat an insidious, rare disease, multiple system atrophy,” writes Jim Duffy in his review at GreatNonprofits.

“Patients, caregivers, families, friends and researchers are energized by the incredible support they receive from the Coalition. And supporters of the nonprofit Coalition know that their donations will be managed and allocated to the highest standards of charity giving. Dealing with a progressive, terminal disease so rare can add isolation to the emotional and practical challenges of the battle. My late wife and I so appreciated meeting and sharing with people that spoke ‘MSA.’ The MSA Coalition is a truly remarkable collection of stakeholders that tirelessly demonstrate strength and compassion,” Duffy continues.

“The MSA Coalition is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” says Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with them.”

GreatNonprofits is the leading website where people share stories about their personal experiences on more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Awards are the only awards for nonprofits determined by those who have direct experience with the charities – as donors, volunteers and recipients of aid.

About Multiple System Atrophy

Multiple system atrophy, previously known as Shy-Drager Syndrome, is a rare and fatal disorder with less than 15,000 Americans diagnosed and 35,000 undiagnosed at any given time. According to the National Institutes of Health, "Multiple system atrophy is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by symptoms of autonomic nervous system failure such as fainting spells (neurogenic orthostatic hypotension) and bladder control problems, combined with motor control symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, and loss of balance and muscle coordination."MSA affects both men and women primarily in their 50s. MSA tends to advance rapidly over the course of six to 10 years, with progressive loss of motor skills, eventual confinement to bed and death. There is no cure or remission from the disease.
