BEYOND LILY WU: SI SHUBIN’S HONG KONG ACTION FILM ‘LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW’ TO BE RELEASED ON US PLATFORMS FEB. 26TH (EXCLUSIVE)

LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW // DARKCOAST
There’s a new sheriff in this Chinese town… And she’s slaying down the law.

Los Angeles, CA - February 13, 2019 - “Director Si Shubin having previously completed production on his debut film ‘LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW’ is gearing up to make his first feature available in the west” learned Asian Movie Pulse, exclusively.

Originally released across theaters in China during May 2018, TriCoast Entertainment’s horror label, DarkCoast, will release LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW (2018) onto various digital streaming platforms Feb. 26th. Watch official trailer for LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW here: https://vimeo.com/295462693.

Directed by Si Shubin and with production credits to James Nan (Five Element Killer, The Dark Soul, Vixen) and Bey Logan, LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW is in the same genre as Logan’s previous work, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016), highlighting a fierce and formidable female detective, one just as capable as a man to storm a tavern and fight the fearsome. Since the glory days of Nancy Drew, female cinematic sleuths have been largely underrepresented worldwide. Now a new icon rises in the east to infiltrate a world of mystery, mayhem and martial arts. LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW is reminiscent of Asia’s first fictional female detective character, Lily Wu. Created by Juanita Sheridan, this young and clever Chinese woman, solved mysteries in New York and Hawaii. Along with her Watson-like sidekick, Janice Cameron, the two were featured in four mysteries: The Chinese Chop (1949), The Kahuna Killer (1951), The Mamo Murders (1952) and The Waikiki Widow (1953).

LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW is “a period kung fu female Sherlock Holmes flick,” says producer Logan. “She’s smarter and faster than the men, and just as brave.”

Written by Hu Rong, LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW sees its protagonist embark on a dangerous journey through the bad lands of Ancient China, which is governed by the imperial houses and bandits alike. After several inexplicable brutal murders plague a remote desert area, the fierce and famous Lady Detective Shadow, Sima Feiyan, (Shang Rong) must use all her wit, wisdom and kung fu skills to find the murderers and instill justice. But as she delves deeper into the mystery, she soon discovers there is much more at stake than just another renegade killer. With its Holmes-esque heroine, LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW introduces an intuitive, sly and cunning woman, who never sacrifices her femininity or sense of self. Stitched together with high-quality mystery, suspense and an intriguing storyline set against the historical and cultural backgrounds of ancient China, Sima Feiyan never misses a clue, proving herself a match for literature’s other great detectives.

A longtime film producer, Chinese movie historian and kung fu expert, Logan is recognized for spearheading the western awareness of Hong Kong martial arts cinema, as well as the intricate art of kung fu. “The tapestry of the southern Chinese martial arts culture... I think is the cornerstone of what has made Hong Kong special, and made Hong Kong famous. We should celebrate it,” said Logan in an interview with the city’s South China Morning Post.

LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW made its festival premiere at American Film Market (AFM) as powerhouse sales force globally, as DarkCoast will exclusively release LADY DETECTIVE SHADOW onto various digital streaming platforms beginning Feb. 26th (DirecTV, FlixFling, Vimeo On Demand, Amazon, Vudu, iTunes, Google Play and FANDAGO).

The Hong Kong action-packed martial arts film boasts a talented, native cast alongside Shang Rong, including Qi Jing-Bin, Zhang Pei-yue, Zhang Ren-bo and Qiu Yun-he. For press inquiries and exclusive interviews, please contact jenna@tricoast.com
