Guide to Events and Activities Happening on Nov. 15 - National Rural Health Day

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - November 14, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Every year in the United States, the third Thursday of November is recognized as National Rural Health Day. On Nov. 15, 2018, the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH), the 50 State Offices of Rural Health, federal, state and local agencies, and healthcare organizations across the country will honor the thousands of men and women, hospitals, healthcare professionals, emergency first responders and others serving the unique health needs of nearly 60 million rural lives.

Across the nation, governors and congressional leaders will proclaim National Rural Health Day, State Offices of Rural Health will convene rural stakeholders and there will be health fairs and health promotion activities, including special rural Walk with a Doc events. Walk with a Doc is a successful model, created by Ohio-based cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir, to encourage healthier behaviors and lifestyle for patients.

Two Twitter chats are planned during the day. Access to Healthcare in Rural Communities will be hosted by the RHIHub at 12 p.m. ET using #RuralHealthChat and the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) will lead a telehealth Twitter chat at 2 p.m. ET using #TalkTelehealth. The FORHP will also host the webinar CMS Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) Efforts in Rural Health at 2 p.m. ET.

NOSORH will host three information-packed webinars to discuss key issues affecting rural communities. Each 30-minute webinar will offer opportunities to chat with national and state experts and will provide resources to all attendees.

Over 100 nominations were received representing 29 states. The Community Star publication will be available on PowerofRural.org.

All those with interest in rural health and the work of those supporting rural health initiatives are asked to use the #PowerofRural in social media all day on Nov. 15.
