Mercer Launches HRTech Incubator

Mercer, a global consulting leader in advancing health, wealth, and career, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC), today announced the creation of the HRTech Incubator Program, a first-of-its-kind incubator launched in collaboration with WeWork Lab, focusing exclusively on future of work technology services.

With rapid developments in technology, the future of work has never evolved so quickly. Mercer is at the forefront of helping companies stay ahead. The Mercer HRTech Incubator was launched to help incubate, support, and grow the next generation of workforce innovation start-ups.

“Clients rely on Mercer to help create and maintain a thriving workforce and as their needs evolve, they want to be regularly exposed to new ways of thinking and to new tools and services,” said Barb Marder, Global Innovation Leader for Mercer. The Mercer Incubator will create an environment to deliver new solutions that will help organizations thrive in the digital age and be forward-looking.”

The inaugural class was selected from over 200 applicants and includes:

  • Vetty – a blockchain & AI-based platform for employee vetting.
  • Vantage Point – a virtual reality-based training services provider.
  • QLC – an online talent development network for in- and externships.
  • Learnerbly – a single-click, SaaS-solution for enterprise learning programs.
  • Retirety – a platform offering employee benefits educational resources.
  • Socrates – an enterprise technology suite offering chatbot HR solutions.

Each participant undergoes an intensive partnership development initiative early in the program to help refine their offering and to help ensure the company’s value-proposition will resonate with clients.

“At Learnerbly, we want to transform the process by which companies upskill and reskill their employees,” said Rajeeb Dey, Founder and CEO of Learnerbly. “Given Mercer’s stellar reputation in the human resources space, we knew we would be an ideal match for their incubator program. We are particularly enthused about Mercer’s advanced insights into the future of work – which speaks directly to the themes that we are addressing at Learnerbly.”

Mercer advisors also work with incubator companies on new product development concepts and future market need identification and assessments.

“The incubator program represents a significant commitment as we continue to unite people and technology, while harnessing the value of digital technologies such as blockchain and AI,” said Gail Evans, Mercer’s Global Chief Digital Officer. “We have a heritage of being collaborative and for looking at new avenues and opportunities to empower and assist our clients, and this incubator enables Mercer and our clients to co-create new and exciting value propositions.”

Mercer HRTech Incubator Program participants also receive ongoing support and benefits including, but not limited to:

  • Mentorship and insights from Mercer’s 20,000+ team of industry professionals
  • Product development and production support
  • Opportunity for future investment participation
  • Structured access to segments of Mercer’s client base who have expressed interest in learning about cutting edge HR technology solutions

“We’ve been through a few different accelerator programs. Those were good, but they were done in a silo – they offered access to mentors from outside the business, but it didn't put the voice of the customer into the mix,” said Brad Heber, Head of Growth at Vetty. “What was really interesting to us about Mercer was not only their impressive subject matter expertise, but their reach into an amazing set of customers who can offer us insights we won’t find anywhere else.”

Upon completing the incubator program, each participant will present at a joint solutions demonstration day and enterprise 2.0 summit. Summit attendees will include key executives within the HRTech space who can comment on their services and provide additional industry insights and business advice and potential clients.
