EQUELLA Charts Open Source Future, Graduates Apereo Incubation

By: PRLog
The Apereo Foundation today announced that the open-source digital repository solution, EQUELLA, has graduated from the Apereo incubation process.
PRINCETON, N.J. - May 24, 2018 - PRLog -- EQUELLA, is a digital repository for housing teaching/learning, research, media, and library content in one platform. It is currently in use at a wide range of schools, universities, colleges, TAFEs, departments of education, government agencies, and corporations worldwide. Last year, Pearson Education contributed EQUELLA to the stewardship of the Apereo Foundation, with the aim of transforming the platform into an open-source repository solution for education.

"Our incubation process ensures that software has met a key set of required indicators before being fully endorsed by the Apereo Foundation," said Ian Dolphin, Apereo Executive Director. "The process is designed to build confidence in adopters, and demonstrate that a series of criteria have been met or exceeded. It is a testament to the strength of the EQUELLA community that this work has been completed in the seven months since the transfer."

The EQUELLA community is providing increased input into the future direction of the platform. An Advisory Board of EQUELLA comprised of users is being established, which includes Mara Hancock, CIO of California College of the Arts, and Lee Webster Director Learning Technology Innovation and Services at TAFE Queensland.

Lee commented, "As a long-time user of EQUELLA and former Customer Advisory Board member, it is exciting to see the platform's continued evolution within the open source environment.  As Co-chair, I look forward to acting on behalf of the vibrant EQUELLA community in ensuring the long-term success of the platform." and Mara added, "I am very pleased that EQUELLA has progressed through the Apereo incubation process. As an art and design college, the California College of the Arts uses EQUELLA extensively as the institutional repository and assessment tool for it dynamic visual content. Being housed within the Apereo family, places EQUELLA within a vibrant international community of open source contributors. I am looking forward to working closely with this community to shepherd the platform through its next iterations!"

EQUELLA is available as a free download from https://equella.github.io/ and supported by regional services providers, including Edalex (Asia Pacific), Unicon (North America), and Next Education Services (EMEA).
