Markets close mixed despite strong economic growth

The markets closed mixed with the Dow soaring 103 points to 23,940 despite strong economic growth in the third quarter. Nasdaq plunged 87 points to 6,824.


On the upside


Photronics (Nasdaq: PLAB) reported higher fourth quarter earnings and revenue.


Strong holiday consumer spending lifted shares of Dillard's (NYSE: DDS) and Target (NYSE: TGT).


Williams-Sonoma (NYSE: WSM) introduced its Pottery Barn 3D Room View augmented reality app for customers to see how Pottery Barn products will fit in their homes.

On the downside


Xunlei (Nasdaq: XNET) has requested that Big Data Information Services stop using the Xunlei brand name.


EAM Investors sold nearly 36,000 shares of Ultra Clean Holdings (Nasdaq: UCTT).


Investors locked in profits on Shopify (NYSE: SHOP).


In the broad market, advancing issues barely edged out decliners by a slim margin on the NYSE while decliners outpaced advancers on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 eased a fraction to 2,626. Bitcoin plunged $193 to $9,726.
