Daniel Chambers of HuntingFishingTech.com announced today the results of a study to see how well the Lowrance Elite-Ti series of touchscreen fish finders and chartplotters was performing in the real world. The conclusions of the study are based on the responses of over 60 fishermen that have purchased Elite-Ti series fish finders in the last two years.
Lowrance’s Elite-Ti series of touchscreen fish finders offer anglers the proven Lowrance high-performance sonar including CHIRP, Broadband Sounder, and StructureScan HD with SideScan and DownScan Imaging. It is marketed as a full featured fish finder with a competitive price point.
The study confirmed that while over 80% of the respondents would recommend their new fish finder to other anglers, there are a number of things potential buyers should be aware of. Lowrance recently released a 9 and a 12 inch version of the Elite-Ti and, while they would like anglers to assume these new versions will perform as well as their smaller siblings, Chambers said the results of the study suggest otherwise.
According to Chambers, “while the Elite-Ti 5 and Elite-Ti 7 are proven performers, their bigger siblings are still fairly unproven because they’re so new. They have only been in the wild for four to six months, so there simply are not many regular (i.e. non-paid spokesmen) fishermen ready to evaluate or comment on them.”
The study also reveals anecdotal evidence that Lowrance’s track record with new products may give fishermen pause. “Whenever a company – including Lowrance – brings new technology to market, there are inevitably some glitches or problems that need to be addressed,” Chambers continued.
According to Technavio, in 2015, the total number of anglers rose to 55.75 million from 55.46 million in 2013 and is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 3.06% between 2016 and 2020. Fishing has become a popular recreational activity across the globe, and the United States is one of the leading countries. Chambers hopes the study will help anglers make great decisions as they begin outfitting their fishing rig or upgrade to the newest technology.
