Winters & Yonker, P.A. Urges Tampa Drivers to Be Prepared for Gasparilla Traffic

Tampa, Florida - January 27, 2017 /MarketersMedia/

This year marks the 101st anniversary of the Gasparilla Pirate Fest, the yearly celebration commemorating pirate Jose Gaspar and his mythical mischief making along the coastlines of Florida, Louisiana and Central America as well as locales across the Caribbean. As Tampa gears up for the annual arrival of the infamous figure and his pirate entourage, Marc Yonker of Winters & Yonker, P.A. is hoping to ensure visitors and local residents are prepared for any accompanying traffic complications.

"Gasparilla is a great time for everyone to come together in downtown Tampa and enjoy all the free festivities," said Yonker, "but as is the case with any public event, parking dilemmas, road closures and traffic rerouting are sure to cause their fair share of headaches. We encourage everyone, whether they're planning to take part in the excitement or just likely to be affected by the temporary changes, to make preparations well in advance of traveling in the downtown area."

This year's 12-hour celebration will be held on Saturday, January 28, running from 9:00 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the Gasparilla Invasion spanning the 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. time frame. Following this portion of the festivities, the parade is scheduled to begin at 2:00. Live music and entertainment will be held throughout the event. Further details about the festival's history and included events are available via the Winters & Yonker website.

Gasparilla Road Closures are set to begin as early as 3:00 a.m. on Saturday morning in preparation for the festival. A map of the affected area and road closure schedule has been posted on the practice's website. Links to a map of the specific parade route as well as in-depth information from the city of Tampa regarding closures, parking and alternate routes for travel have likewise been provided.

Concluded Yonker, "Drivers are sure to be up against bottle necks, people who weren't prepared for the road closures and plenty of cases of outright road rage throughout the day. It's best to be aware of which roads will be closed and have alternate routes in mind before heading out on the day of the festival. We invite those who will be attending the day's events to use the links on our website to plan ahead for parking. We also want to remind everyone to bring extra cash for emergencies and be sure young children understand there will be loud noises and people in costumes so they're not caught off guard."
