Matthew Brickman Explains What's Wrong With The Collaborative Law Process Act

By: PRLog
Florida family mediator, Matthew Brickman, recently released a statement explaining in detail the issues with HB967 otherwise known as The Collaborative Law Process Act.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - June 29, 2016 - PRLog -- Governor Rick Scott signed The Collaborative Law Process Act into law on April 25th, 2016. This sparked Matthew Brickman's comments made in a video posted on his YouTube Channel, "Now on its face it sounds like a great idea. Well it does if you're an individual going through a legal proceeding and if you are a mediator. Mediation is now statutory under House Bill 967."

He went on to point out the exorbitant costs involved with the entire process:

1. Each party in the divorce would retain a family attorney ($5,000-$10,000 average retainer).
2. Both parties would hire a mental health professional ($200-$250 per hour).
3. Both sides would hire an independent financial advisor (variable cost).
4. If parties don't settle and go to trial both sides cannot retain the original aforementioned professionals and would each need to hire a new attorney, mental health professional and independent financial advisor.

His full comments can be seen in the video below:

He concluded by saying, "If you've got a highly skilled and highly trained mediator, you don't need to hire any of these professionals. You can simply come to mediation for a couple hundred dollars an hour and get in and out of the entire divorce for under $2,000 total (not each)."

Matthew Brickman has had strong critique of Governor Rick Scott on other issues as well.
