Waite Vision, a vision correction practice in Lehi, UT, has recently published a blog post titled, “LASIK Recovery Salt Lake City”. The article serves as an important resource for people and prospective patients who are interested in knowing what to expect after their LASIK procedure. Dr. Aaron Waite, founder of Waite Vision, also provides answers in the article to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the recovery process after LASIK and what the patient can and cannot do while the eyes heal. The practice is located in Lehi and serves patients from all over the Salt Lake City area and offers a broad variety of alternatives for vision correction.
Dr. Waite says, “LASIK laser vision correction surgery is one of the best investments you will ever make. LASIK was created for people with nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism. The freedom from glasses and contacts that patients experience after LASIK is simply priceless. One of the many fantastic things about LASIK is its quick recovery. The procedure itself only takes about 15 minutes for both eyes. It is helpful to have a friend or family member drive you home. On the day of your LASIK procedure at Waite Vision, plan to be in our office for about an hour. We repeat some of the same tests performed during your initial thorough consultation to double-check our measurements prior to your LASIK procedure.”
The procedure itself is painless because the patient is provided with numbing eye drops. A soft eyelid holder will provide support for the eyelids so the patient won’t have to worry about blinking. Using femtosecond and excimer lasers, the procedure for both eyes will only require about 15 minutes.
After the procedure, the patient will rest in the recovery room for a few minutes, after which the vision correction doctor will check the eyes to ensure that everything is perfect. They will provide the patient with post-operative instructions and drop medications. LASIK surgery will typically require six to 12 hours of healing time. This will vary depending on the patient and will be affected by various factors, such as the degree of inflammation. During the first week or two after the procedure, the patient may experience intermittent blurry vision, halos, glare, and fluctuating vision. But all of that can be resolved with the use of post-operative eye drops and will disappear with time. Patients will immediately notice an improvement in their vision after the procedure, and the eyes will begin to heal right after surgery. However, stabilization of the patient’s vision will typically require four to six weeks. At the patient’s follow-up appointments at Waite Vision, they will monitor the patient’s recovery and offer a better sense of the specific individual’s recovery timeline.
