Studies Suggest Yoga and Meditation Can Help Relieve Pain

Chronic pain is among the most severe medical issues impacting over a hundred million American adults. According to a 2012 study, Americans are spending over $635 billion on medicine and therapy, highlighting the urgent need to address the problem. However, evidence suggests that meditation and yoga to relieve pain are cheaper and more effective in the long term, minus any adverse effects associated with prescription drugs.

While people have known about yoga relieving pain for years, the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction approach offers a mind and body program based on ancient Buddhist practices. Today, evidence suggests that meditation and yoga can improve and support the healing process, boosting mental and physical health.

Advanced MMC’s latest article discusses using Meditation and yoga to relieve pain. The article is drafted by leading therapist Dr Patricia Delzell, M.D. Readers can learn more by reading the article in its entirety by visiting https://advancedmmc.com/meditation-and-yoga-to-relieve-chronic-pain/.

A study in 2012 concluded that mindfulness meditation could help modify how people respond to pain by mainly altering how a person evaluates it. Regular meditation allows people to detach themselves from sensory processing, raising their pain tolerance threshold.

A recent study conducted in 2018 demonstrated that meditation can alter the brain’s structure by mainly modifying the cortical thickness, making people part of the study group a little less affected by pain.

“Meditation and yoga are two of the most effective ways to relieve pain. Most patients that engage in regular yoga and meditation have reported less pain, and this is especially true for those who were suffering from chronic pain.” Said one of the experts working at AMMC.

She added, “The recently published article highlights the studies showing the effect meditation and yoga can have, which is far from negligible. This makes both these methods of pain relief highly effective, not to mention the positive effects they bring about both cognitively and physically.”
