Marquis Who's Who Honors Dr. Liz Fussell for Expertise in Nonprofit, Higher Education and Small Business Sectors

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / November 5, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Dr. Liz Fussell for expertise in nonprofit, higher education and small business sectors. A distinguished professional, Dr. Fussell is the chief executive officer of Liz Fussell LLC.

About Dr. Fussell

As the chief executive officer of Liz Fussell LLC, Dr. Fussell collaborates with nonprofit, higher education and small business organizations to make them more effective. She frequently works with nonprofit executives and helps them establish effective relationships with the boards of the organization and garner the support executive leaders need to achieve their milestones and maneuver through challenges. Her work with the board members ensures that they understand what their role is in the nonprofit and how they can be valuable resources.

"In some situations, board members are brought on for the wrong reasons, and they don't understand what they're getting in to," Dr. Fussell says. "There's no formal process for them to say, ‘This is what a member does. This is what an officer does.' It's just, ‘Hey, come to this board. It's an hour a month. It's an hour every quarter.' They really don't get a full picture, but that it's about learning."

Dr. Fussell also works with the entire nonprofit team to make certain everyone is in alignment with the mission. This is part of her ongoing goal to help nonprofits improve their services and help people feel happier within the organization.

Dr. Fussell started her career at the entry level. One of her first major achievements was creating a program that was new in the disability field in the United States. Her company had received an establishment grant, and she implemented the program with her team throughout the State of Tennessee.

"I learned and could recite all of the rules and regulations, policies and everything related to that subject because I was writing the curriculum, Dr. Fussell says. "I was providing training and was out there working with people to implement that training into their service arena, which means we had to bring the nonprofit and the state funding agency to the table to say, ‘We want to start this new program. What are we going to call it? What do you want these job descriptions to look like?' And we sat there until we designed all the job descriptions."

Once the program was established and implemented, Dr. Fussell was rewarded with watching it grow. There was a 200% increase in the number of people with disabilities who were employed over five years.

Doing What It Takes to Make a Positive Impact

Over the years, Dr. Fussell has found that one of the first hurdles to overcome is that people with disabilities are not taught how to ask for help. She believes that it is important to teach self-determination and self-advocacy, but is also vital that people understand they can ask for help in the right manner and take responsibility when they receive that help.

Dr. Fussell describes it as knowing how to say, "This is what I would like to do. Will you support me in that?" She asserts that trust is built when people express what they need so others can then work with them.

Working with nonprofit, higher education and small business organizations over two decades has given Dr. Fussell insight into what it takes to make positive changes in the lives of people. "I think it is about having respect for everyone and not worrying about their abilities, their labels, but to first seek what you can learn from them. I think that would change the world," Dr. Fussell says.
