Quantropi Adds Distinguished Cryptography and Security Expert Brian LaMacchia to its Board of Advisors
A Canadian start-up founded in 2018 with a vision to defend Truth and Trust, Quantropi provides quantum secure cryptography to protect data and communications. The company’s next-generation technology works over today’s Internet, enabling governments and enterprises to begin transitioning to post-quantum security with minimal investment in new hardware or infrastructure.
Former head of Microsoft Research’s Security and Cryptography team brings extensive knowledge of quantum-secure cryptographic algorithms.

Quantropi Inc., a provider of complete quantum cryptography solutions for data and communications, today announced that Dr. Brian LaMacchia, recently retired from Microsoft Corporation as a Distinguished Engineer and head of the Security and Cryptography team within Microsoft Research, will join Quantropi’s Board of Advisors. Dr. LaMacchia will strategically leverage his extensive knowledge, expertise, and experience of quantum-secure public-key cryptographic algorithms and protocols to help further the company’s rapid growth and success.

“Brian is one of the most recognized and respected thought leaders in the quantum-secure cryptography arena — we are fortunate to have him on board,” said James Nguyen, CEO of Quantropi. “He has already provided valuable assistance to our team in preparing our submission to NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) in response to their Call for Additional Digital Signature Schemes, and we look forward to Brian’s architectural input and insights across the TrUE cryptographic product family.”

Prior to his retirement from Microsoft, Dr. LaMacchia was also a co-founder of the corporation’s Cryptography Review Board, consulting on security and cryptography architectures, protocols, and implementations. Before moving into Microsoft Research in 2009, Brian was the Architect for cryptography in Windows Security, Development Lead for .NET Framework Security and Program Manager for core cryptography in Windows 2000. Prior to joining Microsoft, Brian was a member of the Public Policy Research Group at AT&T Labs–Research.

Dr. LaMacchia is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University-Bloomington and an Affiliate Faculty member of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington. In addition to being a member of the Technical Advisory Board of Quantum Computing Inc. (NASDAQ: QUBT), he is also Treasurer of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), a member of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Council, a member of the National Academies Forum on Cyber Resilience, and a Vice President of the Board of Directors of Seattle Opera. Brian received S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 1990, 1991, and 1996, respectively.

“We’re delighted to welcome Brian as a strategic advisor,” said Marco Pagani, Chairman of Quantropi’s Board of Directors. “With his illustrious career, impeccable credentials, and superb professional reputation, the insights he brings to the table will be exceptionally valuable for our organization.”

“I’m thoroughly excited to join the talented group of advisors at Quantropi,” said Brian LaMacchia.

“The transition to quantum-resistant (a.k.a. “post-quantum”) public-key cryptographic algorithms is now underway with NIST’s selection of the first such algorithms for standardization. While NIST will continue to select additional algorithms over the next several years, developers and users of public key cryptography can and should start their migrations to quantum-resistant algorithms now.  Cryptographically agile development platforms such as Quantropi’s QiSpace™ platform can help make the transition easier and provide a simpler path forward for any future algorithm migrations.”

Quantropi will be showcasing its unique technology live at RSA Conference 2023, April 24-27 in San Francisco, USA. Booth #5200 within the North Expo.
