Vale resumes shipments from Itaguaí following the conclusion of repairing work
Rio de Janeiro, February 29, 2008 Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (Vale) hereby informs that the
Itaguaí maritime terminal (Itaguaí), in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, resumed its
operations today at its regular annual shipload capacity of 25 million metric tons of iron ore.
Since mid December until the beginning of January, Itaguaí operated with limitations since two of
its equipments were damaged. As from January 07 to February 09, 2008, operations at Itaguaí were
suspended in order to allow foundation works by means of soil nailing (with driven steel piles
filled with concrete and reinforcement steel cage) for the three new equipments. On February 10,
2008, the Company resumed its shipments from Itaguaí, which is currently operating at full
capacity.

uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those projected in

These risks and uncertainties include factors: relating to the Brazilian and Canadian economy and
