US Department of Justice approves Syngenta acquisition of Advanta
Basel, Switzerland, 26 August 2004
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday approved Syngenta’s acquisition of Advanta BV, one of the world’s leading seed companies, as announced on 12 May. The sale of parts of Advanta to investment firm Fox Paine, also announced on 12 May, would meet conditions put forth by the DOJ and remains subject to its approval. The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of 2004.
Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in 2003 were approximately $6.6 billion.
